Choose a product type: storable, consumable or service

The Product Type decides whether SiaOne counts the stock, receives it, delivers it and values it.

Steps

  1. Open Inventory, go to Products > Products. The Type column shows STORABLE, CONSUMABLE or SERVICE for every product.
  2. Open a Storable Product, such as Wireless Mouse. SiaOne counts it: On Hand shows how many you have. It is received into stock when it arrives, delivered when you sell it, and its value appears in the stock reports.
  3. Open a Consumable, such as Demo Hand Soap Refill. You can buy it and sell it, but SiaOne does not keep a stock count for it. When you buy it, the cost goes straight to an expense.
  4. Open a Service, such as Installation & Setup. A service is work, not goods. There is nothing to receive or deliver, so it never appears on a goods receipt or a delivery note.
  5. When you create a product, choose the Product Type first. See Create a product.

Tip

If you are not sure, ask: "Do I want to know how many I have?" If yes, choose Storable Product. If you only want to record the purchase, choose Consumable. If you sell time or work, choose Service.

Note

Reordering rules and the stock reports are for storable products. Consumables and services never show up there.

What happens next

Give a storable product some stock: receive goods from a vendor or count stock.
