Deliver part of an order and keep a backorder
Send only some of the goods now, and keep the rest open on a new delivery note called a backorder.
Where to find it
SalesOrdersSales Orders
Before you start
The sales order must be confirmed, so that its delivery note exists. See Confirm a quotation into a sales order.
Steps
- Open Sales > Orders > Sales Orders, click the order, then click Delivery at the top right to open its delivery note.
- In Delivery Lines, change the Quantity to what you are sending now. In the example, 4 of the 10 mice.
- Click Deliver. Because you are sending less than was ordered, a window called Create backorder? asks what to do with the rest.
- Click Create Backorder. The goods you entered leave the warehouse, and a green message shows the number of the new delivery note.
- Go back to the sales order. Delivery Notes now shows 2. Click Delivery to open the backorder. It is in Ready status and holds the quantity still to send (6 mice in the example). Deliver it later in the same way.
Tip
Choose Deliver Without Backorder if you will never send the rest, for example when the customer cancels that part of the order. No new delivery note is made for the rest.
Note
Invoice what you have delivered. Create Invoice only bills the quantities that have left the warehouse. See Deliver a sales order and create the invoice.
What happens next
When the rest of the goods are ready, open the backorder and click Deliver. Then create the invoice for the new quantities.
