Before you start

The goods must already be delivered - the delivery note is in Done status. See Deliver a sales order and create the invoice.

Steps

  1. Open Sales > Orders > Sales Orders, click the order, then click Delivery at the top right to open the delivered note.
  2. Click the three dots (Document actions) next to the delivery number, then click Return. A Return goods window opens.
  3. Next to each product, type the quantity that came back. The window shows how many were delivered and how many can still be returned. Leave the lines that did not come back at 0.
  4. Under Credit note, keep Draft a new credit note selected, then click Create Return. The goods go back into stock and the cost of goods sold is reversed automatically.
  5. A draft credit note is created for the customer. Open Sales > Customers > Credit Notes to find it, with the status Draft.

Tip

Tick Post the credit note immediately in the Return goods window if you do not need to check the credit note first. Choose Don't create a credit note (stock only) if the customer is not getting any money back, for example when you replace the goods.

Note

The return is also written in the order's Logs, with the return number. The order shows an extra delivery note for it.

What happens next

Open the draft credit note, check the lines and post it. Once posted, it reduces what the customer owes.
