Before you start

The invoice must be confirmed (status Posted). A draft invoice cannot be paid.

Steps

  1. Open Accounting > Customers > Customer Invoices and open the unpaid invoice.
  2. Click Receive Payment. Current Due at the top shows what is still unpaid on this invoice.
  3. Check the Amount and the Payment Date. The amount starts as the full balance. For a part payment, type the amount you received - the invoice stays open for the rest. Payment currency starts as the invoice's own currency.
  4. Choose the Payment Method (Cash, Bank Transfer, Cheque, Card...) and the Journal - the bank or cash account the money went into.
  5. Type the Bank/Card Reference if you have one, and click Save Payment.
  6. SiaOne opens the new payment. It is already Posted and Allocated to the invoice - Unallocated shows 0.00. Click the invoice number to go back: the invoice now shows Paid (or Partially Paid), and its Payments button lists the receipts.
  7. Money that is not for one invoice - an advance or a deposit? Go to Customers > Customer Payments and click New Payment. Choose the Customer, the Amount, the Payment Journal and the Payment Method, then click Save Payment. The money stays on the customer's account until you use it against an invoice.

Tip

To print a receipt for the customer, open the payment, open the actions menu (⋯) and choose Print Receipt.

Note

Made a mistake? Open the payment, open the actions menu (⋯) and choose Reset to Draft. The invoice becomes unpaid again.

What happens next

The customer's balance goes down by the amount received. A cheque dated in the future is handled differently - see Record a post-dated cheque.
