Unallocate a payment

Detach a payment from the wrong invoice, so the invoice is open again and the money is free to use.

Before you start

Use this when a payment was applied to the wrong invoice, or when you must change an invoice that has already been paid. The payment itself stays - only the link to the invoice is removed.

Steps

  1. Open Accounting > Customers > Customer Payments and open the payment.
  2. Open the actions menu (⋯) and choose Unallocate.
  3. Read the message and click Unallocate to confirm. SiaOne detaches the payment from its invoice and restores the invoice balance.
  4. The payment now says Unallocated. The money stays on the customer's account, and Allocate to Invoice lets you set it against the right invoice.
  5. Open Customers > Customer Invoices and open the invoice. Current Due shows the full balance again, and the invoice is open for payment.

Tip

A payment that was split over invoices with Allocate to Invoice has an Allocated Invoices button at the top. Click it and use Reverse next to the invoice you want to release, then confirm with Reverse Allocation.

Note

Once the invoice has no payment against it, you can reset it to draft - see Reset a posted invoice to draft.

What happens next

Allocate the payment to the right invoice, or use it for a later one. To see how an advance is allocated, read Record an advance payment and allocate it later.
